The 2009 Summer Season officially started today at Sharpe Park.
Here is a quick update of the games at field #5:
The Annihilators began their season against their rivals from the 2008 Summer session, Family Medicine of Michigan a.k.a. The Ball Kickers. The Annihilators entered the season missing their all-star first baseman, Rob Feguer, but had replaced him in the off-season with some new talent. The team has added Amanda Sloan, Matt Morden, Kim Layman, Justin Dow. This injection of youth, with the exception of Kim, may be what gives the Annihilators the edge over their competitors this year. Family Medicine of Michigan came into their first game missing their two best players from last year. Without a full arsenal and facing the always impressive Annihilator defense, Family Medicine of Michigan lost their first game 0-2.
The late game featured the team formerly known as "Kickin' Systems", who are now called "Kicking All Day Long" against "Origami Brainiacs". The Origami Braniacs did not seem very prepared coming into this season as they lost 16-0 in disgraceful fashion. The Kicking All Day Long team comes into the 2009 season with many new faces and the disappearance of many old ones. This team needed an overhaul and coach Bob McCleery gave it just that. The team looked quite impressive on offense and had a decent defense as well. This team may be one to watch toward the end of the season.
